ASM exists to REACH students, CONNECT them with God and others, and challenge them to GROW in their faith and SERVE others as they HONOR God with their lives.
* The Mission is what we want to accomplish. The Vision is what our ministry will look like – the environment that must exist in order to see our mission accomplished.
Our Vision is to be a ministry OF Students (Not a ministry TO students)
Throughout the Bible we have examples of God using young people to do extraordinary things in His name. Josiah was a king at the age of 6 and by the time he entered his 20’s God used him to bring an entire nation back to God. Mary was a teenager when she gave birth to the Savior of the World. The disciples were young men who turned the world upside down in the name of Jesus. The list goes on and on.
We believe that God is still the same today. He still loves to use young people to accomplish His work. That is why we are committed to becoming a ministry OF students not a ministry of adults TO students. A Ministry OF Students is one in which students don’t just attend, but fully participate and minister to their peers. Our desire is that all students would pursue full devotion to Jesus Christ and, as a result of His work in their lives, would fully participate in ministry.
This doesn’t mean we don’t need adults to minister. In fact, this means we need more adults to mentor our students to become ministers. The adults who serve with ‘the Storm’ must focus their time and energy on equipping and encouraging students to be ministers to their peers, not doing the ministry for our students (Ephesians 4:11-16; 2 Timothy 2:2).
Dependence on God and His Word - Our ministry exists for God’s glory and purposes. It also will accomplish nothing of significance unless it is God’s work in us and through us. That is why we must submit to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all we do. We must depend on the Power and Direction of God’s Spirit to accomplish the work. We must be solidly grounded in the Authority of God’s Word as our final truth authority. And we must saturate our lives and ministry fully in Prayerful Dependence on Him. (1 Corinthians 10:31; 2 Corinthians 4:5; John 16:13-15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 6:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Evangelistic Pursuit - We believe that all students matter to God, and our goal is to reach them with the Gospel and lead them toward a relationship with Jesus Christ (Luke 15).God has called the church to be His tool for bringing lost people to Him. We are Christ’s ambassadors connecting people to God through Jesus Christ. We must relentlessly pursue lost people on behalf of God (2 Corinthians 5:17-20).
Loving Relationships - Ultimately, ministry is all about loving relationships. Jesus said that our defining characteristic should be love for one another. Our ministry must be a place where our arms are wide open to love everyone God brings our way. If there is one thing we should be known for outside of our walls, it must be our love. (John 13:34-35; 1 John 4:7-16; James 2:1-9; Matthew 22:37-40).
Worship and Prayer - We believe that our ministry exists in and through the power of God and that we will deepen and grow through regular times of worship and prayer (James 5:13).
Equipping - We believe students are not the “Future of the Church,” they are the church of TODAY, and it is our goal to give them the tools to minister to people in their current stage of life (Eph. 2:10).
The Church - We believe that our ministry exists as one part of the Body of Christ and His Church (1 Cor. 12:12)
Family - We believe that healthy family relationships are critical for our students, and they (families) deserve our honor, value, support, and encouragement (Prov. 22:6.)
